Cooking German Style!

Since I have gotten here, if there is one thing I am working on besides the language it is German cooking. One great thing about moving to Germany is we are eating healthier than ever. Germans typically eat a larger lunch and lighter supper. I, Amy, am going to take these next couple blogs and talk about some different German dishes that I am loving.

The first is Pizza Brötchen. This is something so tasty and  easy to make. These are normally served as appetizers at a party or eaten for dinner. They can be served hot or cold. There are several different recipes for this but I will post the first recipe I received. Feel free to experiment with different toppings of vegetables, meats and even fruits such as pineapple for a Hawaiian style pizza brötchen. I will admit that this has not been the healthiest thing but it is definately worth it! . 1 big or 2 small onions diced into small pieces 200 to 250 grams or appr. 9 oz. of shredded cheese 2 sweet red peppers diced into small pieces 8 to 12 ounces of sour cream Appr. 8 slices of boiled ham diced into small pieces salt pepper mushrooms (I do not include) pizza spices . Once mixed all together spoon onto a half roll of bread such as a baguette and bake in the oven at 175 degrees celcius or 350 degrees farhenheit for 15 to 20 minutes.

The americans might want to throw in 1/4 cup of water in the oven and place the brötchen on a rack to crisp them, instead of putting them on a pan (which will keep moisture in, maybe making the bottoms soggy.

Your german cooking looks great! :-D Come up with a great Linsenspätzle recipe for me, I can’t figure out the secret ingredients here in the states! WE LOVE YOU!!
